George Riches was born in Brinkley in 1886 (Newmarket Q2-1886 3B:667), baptised Brinkley 13th June 1886, the son of Charles Jeffery and Rebecca Eugenie
RICHES (née BOOKER).
1891 census...Aged 5, he was at The Street, Brinkley, wih his father Charles J RICHES [32] Brewer/baker, his mother Rebecca E [33], sister Mabel [3] and cousin Henry BLOOM [26]. All are recorded as born in Brinkley, except his mother Rebecca, who was born in Redditch, Worcestershire. 1901 census...Aged 15, a railway clerk, he was at the Off Licence/Bake House, The Street, Brinkley with his parents and sister Mabel and brother John [16] a railway clerk, born Brinkley, (not home in 1891 census) 1911 census...Aged 25, single, a butcher's assistant, he was lodging with Henry and Elizabeth WILD at 53 Fairfax Road, Hampstead, London. His father was still in Brinkley, remarried to Annie Laura SIMPSON in 1909. His mother had died in 1905. After his death, CWGC have his father's address as Prospect Terrace, Exning Road, Newmarket |

No Army record has been found nor is George on "Soldiers Died" (probably since he died after the Armistice). It is likely that he was one of the victims of the influenza pandemic which
killed more people than did the war. No 31 Casualty Clearing Station was posted in the town until the end of 1918.
